Body Area

Arm Liposuction Atlanta

One of the biggest “problem areas” for women is the upper arm area.

Having flabby arms can discourage you from wearing a sleeveless summer dress or just going to the pool. A lot of people, especially women suffer from this condition worldwide.

As we get older, it’s normal to experience aging of the arms, especially the underarms around the armpit area. The skin droops and underarms get fatty.

Arm fat is difficult to get rid of, regardless of how much working out or dieting one does. That’s where upper arm liposuction steps in.

Our liposuction surgeons can remove excess fat on the back of the arms and under the armpits, leaving you with a more toned, sculpted, youthful look.

What is Arm Liposuction?

Arm liposuction is a cosmetic surgical procedure for getting rid of excess fat from the upper arms. The fat is extracted using a thin cannula (a hollow hose) attached with an aspirator (a suction device).

Some of the reasons for getting arm liposuction includes getting thinner arms that tone with ease, eliminating the display of flabby arms, particularly the back region of the arms, reducing the fat hanging down the back arms.

Who is a good Candidate for an Arm Liposuction?

Arm liposuction slims the contour of the arm, and is ideal for patients with stubborn areas of localized fat that do not respond to diet and exercise, and who are no more than 10 to 15 pounds overweight.

Your overall health should be good if you’re considering any elective surgical procedure.

You may have gone through series of dieting programs and exercises but the condition remains the same. Maybe you are not even overweight but your once toned arms are now something else. You need not worry because there is a solution in sight. Arm liposuction may be what you need and the earlier you go for it, the better.

The Procedure

With the Tumescent technique, only a local anesthetic is used to numb the area and the patient remains coherent throughout the procedure, which is very safe and relatively painless during recovery.

Very few small incisions are made in the upper arms to insert the 3mm cannula laser instrument, which gently melts away and vacuums the fat, while tightening the skin.

Through the 3mm incisions, the surgeon slowly guides the cannula to the targeted areas to remove the excess fat with precision and resulting in less pain, bruising and downtime for the patient.

  • You will go through standard pre-op tests.
  • You will receive a mild sedative and local anesthesia.
  • Small incisions will allow the doctor to access the fat area.
  • A three-part fluid is injected in the area: 1) lidocaine to numb the areas avoiding the need for general anesthesia, 2) Epinephrine to constrict your blood vessels to prevent excessive bleeding, 3) a saline solution to dislodge the fat cells and fat tissue.
  • Using a microcannula, the doctor finds and removes the fat by tumescent liposuction.
  • The laser-equipped cannula will burn the fat cells and promote new collagen that will help with skin tightening.
  • The operation takes less than two hours.
  • Our staff will fit you with a compression garment and instructions.
  • Following your surgical procedure, you are required to have someone pick you up and drive you home.

Arm Liposuction Cost

Many patients opt to include this area in their treatment plan, as it enhances the overall appearance and achieves desirable results.

Recovery & Downtime

Recovery from arm liposuction surgery takes very little time. Compression garments or bandages are used to reduce swelling and bruising and provide support to the skin and muscle tissues as they heal over the first two weeks following surgery.

Patients often see results immediately even though temporary swelling is to be expected.

As new collagen tightens the treated area, patients can expect to see skin tightening over the next six months.

Most patients can return to work relatively quickly, but during the first two weeks after surgery, patients should plan to avoid strenuous activity so that the body can heal. After surgery, few patients experience discomfort, but if the patient feels pain or numbness.

The tiny incisions will disappear in time.

Risks

Like all operative procedures, including liposuction in Atlanta, there is a risk of infection. But at our facility, we have a very low infection rate well below 1%. Contour irregularities can also occur when performing liposuction procedures. At Atlanta Liposuction Specialty Clinic, our liposuction specialists are very skilled and focused on providing consistent, natural-looking results in all their liposuction Atlanta procedures..

Arm Liposuction vs Arm Lift Brachioplasty

These are two (2) different procedures. In simple terms, an arm lift removes excess skin and liposuction removes excess fat. The final objective is to improve arm contour.

Arm Lift or Brachioplasty, is the surgical reduction of the redundant skin and fat of the upper arm that can develop with age. Arm liposuction on the other hand, is a less invasive alternative to an arm lift.

Patients with history of considerable weight loss, over 45 or with arm stretch marks might be better candidates for an Arm Lift procedure.

For a patient with both loose skin and stubborn fat a good option is to combine both procedures – first the liposuction to reduce the fat deposits and then the lift to remove the extra sagging skin.

While every surgical procedure can cause some degree of scarring, there is a significant difference between scars from liposuction vs. arm lift surgery. Most liposuction techniques require very small incisions that can be discreetly placed to minimize visibility.

Arm lift surgery, requires a larger incision which may be visible along the inside of the arm.

Will there be scars or hanging skin?

The initial results of tumescent liposuction are visible after a few weeks and leave minimal, hard-to-see scars. The incision site is so small that it won’t require more than 1 suture and it will heal within a matter of days.

The laser-equipped cannula will burn the fat cells and promote new collagen that will help with skin tightening. Patients with mild to moderate skin laxity will see an improvement in skin tone and firmness with BodyTite.
