What is a Breast Reduction?
The traditional breast reduction is a common surgical procedure but the main disadvantages, aside from the extreme nature of the surgery, are the extensive scarring across the chest area and around the areola, as well changes in the sensation of the areola and nipple. It is performed under general anesthesia, often taking 4-6 hours, and patients are advised to engage in very little activity for several weeks or even months. The scars will usually “mature” or reach their final form in 1-2 years. Patients who have undergone traditional breast reduction surgery have complained about significant pain for prolonged periods.
How is a Scarless Breast Reduction Different?
Dr. Cole’s Scarless Breast Reduction is an in-and-out procedure that is minimally-invasive and performed under local anesthesia. The downtime is just a few days (2-3 days) since there is typically minimal soreness rather than actual pain. Additionally, there are no scars, stiches or even sutures since Dr. Cole makes a tiny piercing under the breast in order to use a micro-laser to liquefy fatty tissue before removing it. The result? A patient will have size-reduction as well as slightly lifted, tighter breasts with full sensation as before, but without a single incisional scar.
Who is a Candidate for a Scarless Breast Reduction?
Dr. Cole’s Scarless Breast Reduction technique is ideal for patients who are looking for 1-3 cup-size reduction in each breast or looking to correct asymmetrical breasts, a very common condition in which one breast is slightly larger than the other. Although Dr. Cole’s technique involves a skin-tightening laser, a patient with extreme skin laxity would not be a candidate. Instead, that patient may be a candidate for a Natural Breast Augmentation.
