Brazilian Butt Lift

Brazilian Butt Lift

What is a Brazilian Butt Lift ?

The Brazilian Butt Lift is a common term that is used to describe the combined procedure of removing fatty tissue with liposuction and placing it into the buttocks. This procedure has the goal of contouring the body as well as adding shape and fullness to the buttocks.  Here at Atlanta Liposuction Specialty Clinic we use tumescent liposuction to facilitate the removal and transfer of fat to the buttocks. Using this tumescent technique, we can sculpt the body and easily maneuver our patients into the precise positions to maximally enhance the buttocks.

What is the recovery like from the BBL?

If you are planning to have the procedure, and you work, you need to arrange to take 7-10 days off from work.  That time will be used to recover.  Please be aware that you should not sit on your buttocks for 7-10 days after the procedure so that the transferred fat will have the best chance to survive.  You will be given antibiotics and pain medicine to take after surgery and you will need to take those as directed.  Also, plan to eat a diet high in protein to help your body heal.  A nutrient rich diet with plenty of vegetables will also benefit your recovery. You will also be encouraged to walk and do stretching to enhance the healing process. We also make available to our clients our customized BBL Survival Kit. This comprehensive kit includes all the supplies you will need to make your recovery care free.

Exercise is an important component of the healing process and should be planned on to maximize your results. Mild exercise can be done a few days after surgery and be increased in intensity for 4 weeks when normal exercise can be done.  Should you choose to have the procedure done with us, we will be available to guide you through all aspects of the recovery and healing process.

What can I expect after the procedure?

After the procedure you can expect to have some discomfort in your buttocks and in the areas where fat was removed.  These areas will be sore for 3-4 days and require either prescription pain medicine, or over the counter medications such as acetaminophen of ibuprofen for comfort.  You will be able to perform most of your daily activities 1-2 days after surgery.  You must be careful not to sit on your buttocks, because that will compromise blood flow to the transferred fat and inhibit the healing process.

When will I see the results of the BBL surgery?

You can expect to see a significant change in your buttocks as soon as a week after surgery. The amount of fat you retain at one month is usually the amount of fat that will stay permanently. Some of our patients have told us that they have noticed increases in their buttocks up to one year after surgery. This may be a result of the stem cells that are in fat that can facilitate further growth in the buttocks over time. As a rule, we advise our patients they will see most of their improvement to be present at 6 months post-operatively.

What technique do you use to complete the surgery?

Recently, there has been a lot of publicity about the BBL procedure being very high risk. But the risk is mainly from placing the fatty tissue in the buttock muscles and this is what increases the risk of major complications from the surgery. Our surgeons here at Atlanta Liposuction Specialty Clinic are trained to place the fat strategically in the subcutaneous tissue of the buttocks and do not ever place the fat in the gluteus muscles. This surgical technique dramatically reduces the risk of the procedure and in our hands provides superior results for our patients, with a low risk of complications.
