Who is a candidate for Knee Liposuction?
Both men and women are good candidates for knee liposuction if they don’t have any significant medical problems. We find that women are more concerned about their knees because they are conscious of how they appear in shorts. Our clients tend to focus on both the area above the knee as well as the middle portion of their knees. Women are often concerned with the area in the inner aspect of their knees which sometimes touches when they put their legs closer together. This procedure is excellent for contouring the knee and making our clients feel more comfortable with their appearance in shorts and dresses.
How is the procedure performed?
At Atlanta Liposuction Specialty Clinic knee liposuction is performed under local tumescent anesthesia. The patient is also sedated with medications prior to the administration of the tumescent anesthesia. Small punctures in the skin are made to introduce the tumescent anesthesia and these punctures are placed near the sides of the knee. These incisions will disappear over time, usually 6 -12 months. We then use small cannulas and the SmartLipo Triplex laser to contour and remove fat from your knees. The use of the SmartLipo enables us to get the best skin tightening possible with a laser liposuction device.
What is the recovery time after the procedure?
Most patients experience some discomfort after the procedure for 2-5 days. It is recommended that you rest for 1-2 days after the procedure. You will be wearing a compression garment and that will help with the discomfort. Most patients can return to work in 3-4 days. The arm garment will usually cover the entire leg to give support to the areas that were treated with liposuction.
What kind of results can I expect after the procedure?
After the procedure you will have swelling for about 2-3 weeks. If a large amount of fat was removed healing may be slower. The SmartLipo laser treatment will help with skin tightening for 2-3 months after the procedure. You may notice results sooner than that in some cases. The final results are complete anywhere from 3-6 months after the procedure is completed. Most of our patients are very pleased with the new contour of their knees.
What is the average cost of the procedure?
The procedure costs vary depending on the amount of fat that needs to be removed and the size of the patient. The beginning cost for the knee liposuction procedure is $3,900. Use of the SmartLipo laser in this region provides our patients with a more defined and sculpted look. Adding in the inner thigh region to address the fat in that region is an additional charge, but many patients love the look that adding that area provides.
What are the risks associated with the procedure?
Like all operative procedures there is a risk of infection. But at our facility we have a very low infection rate well below 1%. Contour irregularities can also occur when doing the procedure, but at Atlanta Liposuction we are very precise with the placement of our entry ports and pay close attention to the anatomy of the knee region. Adherence to this method has given us good and consistent results for our patients.
